Things to Know Before Getting a Tattoo

DON’T drink coffee or alcoholic beverages within 24 hours before the tattoo session

Caffeine and alcohol can thin the blood, leading to increased bleeding, difficulty in achieving proper shading, and prolonging the tattoo process.

Ensure you have had sufficient sleep before the appointment

Lack of sleep can cause skin swelling, increased bleeding, difficulty in achieving good coloring, and extended session time.

Maintain a balanced and hydrated diet before the tattoo appointment

Being on an empty stomach can lead to low blood sugar.

Keep the skin in the tattoo area healthy

If the skin in the tattoo area is damaged or affected by skin conditions, the tattoo session cannot proceed on the same day.

Opt for loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing if possible

This facilitates access to the tattoo area and eases the process.

Don’t apply any numbing creams before the tattoo session

Do not apply foundation, fake tan, or any makeup that covers the skin in the tattoo area before the session

Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo aftercare is crucial, as the final recovery outcome depends on how you maintain it.

1.Keep the protective film on your skin for 3 days without doing anything.

The tattooed area may continue to seep blood and ink, making the film appear dirty underneath. Don't worry, it can be washed off later. If you have any allergic reaction to the film, remove it immediately. If the film curls or falls off on its own, you can remove it and proceed to the next step.

2.Ensure your hands are clean.

3.Remove the protective film and rinse the tattoo with clean water.

Thoroughly clean off any residual blood and ink on the skin surface to prevent them from drying and forming scabs.

4.Let the tattoo air-dry naturally.

5.Apply antiseptic cream three times a day for 2-3 weeks.

A thin layer on the skin's surface is sufficient. Gently spread it evenly with your hands, avoiding applying it too thick. Keep the skin moisturized, excessive dryness can hinder healing.

6.Do not scratch your tattoo!

The healing process can be itchy, but refrain from scratching to allow dead skin and scabs to naturally fall off. Premature picking can cause color to come off with the scabs.

— If you experience persistent itching, redness, swelling, or pus, consult a medical professional. — Before your tattoo is fully healed, avoid places that might cause infection, such as swimming pools, beaches, and public spas. — For the first week, avoid intense workouts as sweat can impede healing and strain on the tattooed area might cause tearing, slowing down the recovery process. — You can shower as usual but avoid hot water and prolonged soaking. Quick showers are recommended. — Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight as UV rays can fade the tattoo. — Moderate alcohol consumption is advised; alcohol can increase itching, dilute blood, and slow down the healing process.
